Does My Business Need Door Access Control

Re-posted with permission from BadgePass and edited.

Businesses of all sizes have concern over security. Even though technology has improved significantly over the years, implementing new security measures can seem overwhelming. This is often why many businesses continue to hope for the best rather than taking the necessary steps to improve safety and security.

If your company has considered an access control system, we encourage you to explore the benefits that this technology has to offer. You can take charge of your security and give yourself greater peace of mind. Let’s learn more about how adding this to your facility can benefit you.

What is an Access Control System?

This is designed to control entrance to a building or a specific set of doors and openings within an organization. By installing one of these systems, you can monitor who is coming in and out of your location and even restrict entry for specific cardholders. Chances are, you already have a lock-and-key system in place. An electronic door access system eliminates the need for physical keys and instead relies on card technology.

How Can Your Business Benefit?

Anything that enhances security in your building is worth looking into. Your staff, employees, and visitors will thank you for keeping them and their sensitive information safe. Here are some of the ways that your company can benefit.

  • Keep records. Some businesses need to keep records of when people enter and exit their doors. With physical keys, there is no way to see who accessed specific openings and when, however, an access control system captures this data and logs it, giving you the ability to easily run reports later.
  • Restricted access. Perhaps there are areas of the building that you want to restrict to. You can easily regulate this based on a cardholder’s access privileges for certain times or days. For example, you might want to give the janitorial entry to only specific doors for cleaning from 5-6 pm every night. This is much better than giving them a key that can be used at any time with no restrictions.
  • Improve security. What happens when there is an immediate security threat? This allows you to immediately lock down your facility and add/remove credentials as needed.
  • Prevent lost keys. When an employee loses a physical key, the only way to stop that key from accessing your facility in the future is to re-key the building. However, with an electronic access control system, you can immediately deactivate credentials, keeping unauthorized users from entry.
